Custom Laser Welding for Ultra-Thin Stainless Steel Tubes

Custom Laser Welding for Ultra-Thin Stainless Steel Tubes

In January 2026, SFX Laser received a technical inquiry from a customer in Thailand to weld stainless steel tubes with a diameter of 3mm and wall thickness of 0.2mm. The requirement: welds that are both strong, sealed, and visually flawless.

After receiving sample parts, our process engineer EKKO YANG led a technical review and recommended a platform welding system with a rotary axis. The key challenge was preventing burn-through on ultra-thin walls. Through optimized optics and precise laser parameter control, initial tests using the DLW-2000A achieved welds meeting the customer’s strength, sealing, and appearance standards.

Before placing the order, the customer sent new sample specifications. While the existing setup could weld them, efficiency and quality were not optimal.

SFX Laser quickly decided to develop a custom machine with three core capabilities:

  • Weld metals from 0.1–1mm while ensuring strong, sealed, and aesthetically pleasing joints
  • Multi-axis motion for cylindrical and flat components
  • Dedicated clamping system for precise positioning

By February 2026, the custom machine was completed and tested. Multiple validation rounds confirmed weld quality, strength, and sealing fully met the customer’s requirements.

This project demonstrates SFX Laser’s rapid response and expertise in custom laser solutions, delivering precision and reliability for demanding applications.
